Team selection to play away to Nuevo Portil in League Play Offs

Play Off- Match Report

Sunday 28th May saw us travel to play Nuevo Portil in the league quarter final play offs. This was the first time in our history that our team has qualified for the play offs. The match was a very tighly fought encounter with Team ICL getting off to a flying start. Up in four of the five games after 6 holes and going well. However we could not maintain this position as in all of our games we were giving away too many shots to a team that do not submit many cards for handicap purposes during the year. This has been a common theme throughout the season. Most of the teams in the League have very few competitions during the winter season and therefore playing handicaps may not be updated for up to 10 months in the year. Unlike Team ICL where we update our handicaps at least 3 times per month. This is a situation that needs to be addressed by the League Management Committee. The match finished with a 3 and a half to 1 and a half defeat with 4 of the games being decided over the last 2 holes. This was a superb performance by the team and one we should all be very proud of as the opposition on the day played exceptionally well off their handicaps. As this will be the last match report until next season, I want to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to every squad member who made themselves available for team selection over the course of the season.The job of Captain is not easy as I have to make team selections which on occasions may lead to me leaving out some people who may expect to be selected. On most occasions when this has occured, my decisions were accepted without complaint and this is an indiction of the camaraderie that exists within the squad. I hope we can continue with this positive approach and put in an even better performance next season which will start again around the end of September. Our last event this season will be on 23rd and 24th June. It is the individual closing competion and Presentation dinner at Islantilla. I will publish further details as soon as I have them.
